In my recent article, I have discussed about the halo effect and how it can lead us to have misperceptions in our thinking. What do you think is an effective way to counteract the halo effect?
Here is the link of my article https://www.fun-psych.com/post/the-halo-effect, just in case you want to read it again and recall. :)
I believe that counteracting the halo effect is close to impossible with the society we’ve brought up from, and the stereotypes created since we were born. nonetheless, judging probably plays the major role when concerned with the halo effect. It is hard for a person to not judge sth once they see it for the first time; therefore, having positive opinions on the person, matter or subject first might help counteract the halo effect
The Halo Effect, in my opinion, is inevitable. I'd like to think that I may be quite immune to it, but I don't think that's 100% true. This effect is often used as an excuse when we deliberately go for those who just look "better" and don't get the result we had hoped. When we set our mind to (especially) get into a romantic relationship for gaining a social status, that in itself is different altogether than finding a compatible partner where looks don't really matter as much... Once you change your mindset, which will take time and practice, the Halo Effect won't be as prominent!
